Police have initiated an investigation into the tragic death of a Form Three student at Bande Girls Secondary School in Migori County, who took her own life on Sunday. The local area chief, Winnie Malemba, has confirmed the incident.
According to a police incident report, the 15-year-old girl attended a church service within the school premises alongside other students. However, she discreetly left the church service while it was still ongoing, and she was subsequently discovered lifeless inside a classroom.
The report further reveals that the student left a note explaining that she had chosen to end her life due to harassment she had been enduring from one of the school prefects.
Police have stated that the student’s body has been transported to the Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.
This tragic incident follows another distressing event just a week earlier when a Grade Four pupil took his own life in a classroom at Sare Primary School in Migori County.
