Former Lamu Senator Anuar Loitiptip cum Fraudster charged with Sh 6M car Fraud

Former Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip was on Thursday charged before a Nairobi court with Sh6 million motor vehicle fraud.

In the first count, Anwar was accused that on August 3, 2022, at an unknown place within the country, without lawful authority or excuse made a motor vehicle registration certificate purporting it to be a genuine certificate issued by the National Transport and Safety Authority.

He faced another count of fraudulently uttering to Samson Malonza a forged motor vehicle certificate for motor vehicle registration number KDA 005C on the same dates and place.

The court heard Loitiptip also fraudulently obtained from Samson Malonza a total sum of Sh6 million by falsely pretending that he was in a position to sell to him a land cruiser V8 a fact he knew to be false.

He is alleged to have committed the offence on August 3, 2022, in Kileleshwa area in Kilimani.

He denied the charges before Milimani senior principal magistrate Gilbert Shikwe and pleaded for lenient bond terms.

“I am a law-abiding citizen…the charges against me are malicious. The car was stolen while I was busy campaigning when the alleged vehicle is said to have been stolen,” Anwar told the court.

He added that he comes from Lamu and he lost last year’s election.

“Am bankrupt now. Please give me lenient bond terms,” he said.

Anwar said the complainant was his good friend and had an agreement.

Please consider my request. If the complainant is willing that I transfer the logbook to him, I will and if it is refunding money I will do it, he told court.

He urged court to be lenient saying he has a medical condition which should be considered.

The court released him on a cash bail of Sh700,000 or a bond of Sh1 million.

The case will be mentioned on November 30.

Anwar was brought to court after a warrant of arrest wa issued against him for failing to appear in court last week to answer to the charges.

Milimani senior principal magistrate Dolphina Ogola issued the warrant
