Politicians Intimidating Bungei And Junior Officers Should Face Me, I’ll Deal With You – IG Koome

The Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has dared those intimidating junior police commanders and officers over the chaos witnessed during the Azimio la Umoja protest on Monday, March 20, and face him instead.

Addressing the media on Sunday, IG Koome stated that he will not allow anyone to go after his juniors as they act on his orders hence he should be the one to be put into question.

IG Koome noted that he is privy to threats against Nairobi Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei, that he will be charged both locally and internationally over the chaos.

He challenged those targeting commander Bungei to now face him and cease acting as “cowards”.

“Last week I saw politicians trying to threaten my Regional Commander Bungei that you will arrest him and take him to an international court,” he said.

“Why are you afraid of me you are going to my junior? Deal with Koome I am ready. I am the commander of the National Police Service the buck stops with me don’t start intimidating my junior officers.”

He went on to add that another junior officer is being censured online over claims that she is responsible for the death of a Maseno University student who was shot during the protests in Kisumu.

He vowed to discharge his duty in his capacity and he will cushion his junior officers from those aiming to attack them.

“Some were even intimidating a young policewoman in Maseno it all over social media. She is a constable why don’t you target the IG,” he said.

“Face the IG I will deal with you. I have a job to do and I will discharge that mandate without fear or favour.”

Azimio plans to have another round of protests on Monday, which IG Koome has vowed to closely monitor to ensure there is calm in the nation.
