‘You Must Stop FGM!’ President Ruto Tells Kuria Community

President William Ruto has called upon the Kuria community to stop Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and embrace girl-child education.

Speaking during his official visit to Kuria East constituency on Saturday, the Head of State told the community to stop FGM immediately and collaborate with the government in developing the region.

“Let us stop that thing (FGM). I hear that men here are still insisting on cutting their girls. No. I have refused. I want our girls to go to school and prosper. Why are the men here silent? FGM must stop,” said the President.

Ruto noted that FGM cases in the region have reduced, urging the community to focus on eliminating it completely.

“We have to give equal opportunities to our children. To our girls here in Kuria, know that we value you (sic).”

The Kuria community, which is largely based in Migori County is among Kenyan communities that record high cases of FGM.
