City Reps accused of ‘bedding’ Sakaja’s men

Pipeline MCA Musango Maithya who doubles up as the Chairperson of the Nairobi Transport Committee has been accused by the committee members of betraying City residents.

The members said he has been shamelessly holding brief for members of the Executive who have been summoned to appear before the committee.

The committee members have asked the County Assembly leadership led by Speaker Ken Ngondi to have Maithya removed as the Chairperson.

They accused him of running the Committee has if it’s his own ‘whats app group’

In a meeting between his members, Michael Kimani- Chief Officer Security and Compliance and CEC Mobility and works Brian Mulama on Thursday, the reps said they were disappointed with him.

“Instead of allowing the Officers to respond to questions, Maithya answered the questions on their behalf,” said a rep who requested anonymity for fear of being victimized by the Chairman.

Some of the queries the Chief Officer was expected to address include the variations in the list of Public Service Vehicles SACCOs licensed by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and approved by the County to operate within Nairobi CBD.

The Reps said they wanted to deliberate on strategies and timelines for removal of PSVs operating within petrol stations, parking and loading zones which causes disorders in the City.

“Our role as MCAs is to oversight and represent our electorates. We are disappointed by our Chairman who was directly defending the Chief Officer. We expected them to demystify how to enforce the resolution of the County on removal of broken down and abandoned vehicles on road reserves including non-compliant car yards, public spaces and walkways,” he said.
