Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said that the Mt Kenya region must stay united.
Speaking in Meru on Sunday, Gachagua said by uniting, the region has greater negotiating power and for this, they must stay in government for the next 100 years.
The DP insisted that people from the Mt Kenya region are smart and there is no way one will take them to be in the Opposition.
“This region is one, let’s live like a community. Our negotiation power is enhanced, our relevance in Kenyan politics is steady and this region must stay in government for the next 100 years.
“We will be careful to be in government, nobody will be able to take us to the opposition. We are smart and we know how to decide,” Gachagua said.
The DP noted that the region was divided ahead of last year’s general elections but that is no longer the case.
He said that it is now his mission to unite the region to stand solidly behind President William Ruto.
Gachagua said he has gone to the extent of looking for people who supported Azimio in efforts to have them back the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“I want to unite this region behind President William Ruto. I want all of us from this region to unite. During elections we were divided, 87 per cent backed Ruto, and 13 per cent threw away their votes,” he said.
“I have looked for all those who were in Azimio, I want this region to be one under President William Ruto.”
The Deputy President cautioned that going forward, he would not want to hear talks of people from the region accusing others of having worked with the Opposition.
He said the region is now united and they move as one.
“Maneno ya nani alipigia Azimio ifike mwisho, (stories of so and so voted for Azimio must come to an end) we don’t want that topic again,” Gachagua said
