Lawyer Charged For Defrauding Client Sh26M

A city lawyer has been charged with obtaining Sh26 million from a client by pretending that he would defend her in a civil case.

David Chege Mboche a close partner of Cecill Miller appeared before Milimani Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi and denied the charges. It’s not known if he struck the deal in Miller’s office and Miller has not commented on the matter.

He is accused of obtaining Sh 26,075,000 from Marianne Kamau that on diverse dates between February 1, 2022 and July 30, 2023, with intent to defraud.

It is alleged that he committed the offence jointly with others not before court, at an unknown place in Kenya.

The prosecution alleges that Mboche told Kamau that he would conduct a civil case at Milimani law courts on her behalf. The fees were for filing the case but it turned out to be non-existent.

Chege is also accused of conspiring to defraud Kamau of Sh 26 million. It is alleged that he committed the offence with another person who is yet to be charged.

Through his lawyer, Chege informed the court that he has been ailing and is currently undergoing medication at Mbagathi hospital.

He was remanded at Capitol Hill police station until August 18, 2023.
