Tension remains high at Sondu on the border of Kisumu and Kericho counties following a flare-up between communities residing in the area.

The unrest which has so far claimed one life and left scores of others injured has paralysed businesses in the town and transport along the Ahero Kisii Highway.

Already security has been beefed up at the Sondu market to contain tension that emanated from the anti-government protest.

During the better part of the day, a multi-agency security team from both Kisumu and Kericho held various meetings within the area to find a solution to the matter.

Kisumu County Police Commander Alphonce Kimanthi said the security team has lined up a series of meetings with the communities and other stakeholders to quell the tension and find a long-lasting solution to the problem.

This comes even as locals call for thorough investigations into the matter.

They accused the police officers in the area of laxity.
