One dead in Siaya after armed thugs invade Play Station

Traders in Siaya town are in shock following a shooting incident of a young man who was manning a cyber cafe`-cum- play station at a shop along Grace Onyango road Tuesday evening.

Felix Okoth Oyugi, 20, was shot to the abdomen by two thugs who ambushed him at around 7:30pm on August 1, 2023.

Felix succumbed to his injury while undergoing treatment at the Siaya County Referral Hospital shortly after being rushed there for emergency medical intervention.

One of the two customers who were at the shop during the incident is still admitted at the same hospital due to shock and trauma.

Collins Otieno Oyugi, brother to the deceased and the shop owner, said that the family is yet to overcome shock.

The deceased finished his form four last year at Chebuyusi Secondary School in Western Kenya, Collins said.

“The doctors tried their best but we lost Felix due to severe haemorrhage,” Collins told the Star.

According to witness reports, Collins said, the two thugs that accosted the deceased escaped on a motorcycle.

The shop owner said that the single screen and the Play Station (PS) we’re not stolen.

His business opened doors only three months ago.

The Ward Commander (OCS) Wafula Lokorito, who spoke on behalf of the Siaya Sub County Police Commander Benedict Mwangangi (currently on leave), said that investigations are ongoing to unravel the mystery.

Already, Lokorito met Siaya Town’s bodaboda operators as a step towards weeding out thugs from their midst.

Both the police and the bodaboda operators agreed that riders without number plates and stage registrations be clumped down.

Siaya Boda Boda Operator’s chairman David Ochola, however, blamed the police for always victimizing riders who volunteer to give information to the police.
