Controversial blogger Cyprian Nyakundi retains prominent lawyer Donald Kipkorir in ‘wash wash’ suit

Controversial blogger Cyprian Nyakundi has retained renowned lawyer Donald Kipkorir to hold legal briefs for him in a defamation case involving three politicians.

This follows threats by the three, who include Lang’ata lawmaker Phelix Odiwuor aka Jalang’o, his Nyabirare Chache counterpart Zaheer Jhanda, and Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang.

A correspondence by Kipkorir addressed to Jalang’o and Zhanda which was seen by Nairobi News indicated the blogger was ready to face his accusers in court.

It read in part: “Our client avers that your allegations and claim are without constitutional, legal and factual basis.
Our client will defend any ill-advised suit and will counter-claim for full disclosure under the Leadership and Integrity Act and Access to Information Act.”

The blogger, known for several controversial exposes posted on his website and socials had earlier published an article on linking the three politicians to a Sh1 billion fake gold deal in Nairobi.

“A fake gold syndicate involving a Senator, two Members of Parliament, a police officer, and several other suspects has been exposed by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI),” claimed the blogger.

The statement drew demand letters from the politicians.

But Nyakundi has held his ground.

“It is good they want to go to court. It’s essential for Kenyans to probe into their wealth sources. Many of us are eager to learn how they’ve amassed their money, even making money-counting videos. My Lawyer Donald B. Kipkorir will be handling these matters,” he explained.

Earlier on, Jalang’o threatened to sue one of the local publications over an article that also linked him to the fake gold scam.

“Rogue media must be dealt with! After the steps, I want to take against…I don’t think they will ever sit down and write a defamatory story on anyone again then call to extort you in the name of we will clean your name! I’ll not fall for that nonsense,” Jalang’o posted on his X account.

He has however softened his stance and said he will not be pressing charges.
