Lawyer Evans Asuga Ongicho linked to Sh 5.8million fraud

A Nairobi lawyer who is accused of stealing Sh5.8 million from his client will be charged in court today.

Evans Asuga Ongicho was to appear in court yesterday but his lawyer said he was unwell and presented medical documents.

“My client is sick and he is supposed to appear before the doctor today for a review. I request that the court allows him to appear in court on Thursday for plea taking,” his lawyer said.

The prosecution did not oppose the application after checking the medical documents. Milimani senior principal magistrate Jane Kamau allowed Ongicho’s application.

According to the charge sheet, Ongicho stole Sh5,858,080 from Mishek Mokua Saboke. He received the cash in the Ongicho & Co Equity bank account.

The money was an award from a court ruling in a civil case in 2015 against National Water Conservation and Pipeline Corporation.

He is alleged to have committed the offence between October 17, 2019, and February 5 this year in Nairobi.
