President William Ruto has affected major changes at the Kenya Defence Forces promoting key members of the defence forces and shuffling the leadership in new postings and appointments.
According to the changes that follow a recommendation by the Defence Council and are in accordance with the Kenya Defence Forces Act, Major General Charles Muriu Kahariri has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed Vice Chief of the Defence Forces.
His promotion follows the retirement of Lieutenant General Jonah Maina Mwangi whose term has come to an end after 42 years of service.
Further, the President promoted and appointed Major General David Kimaiyo Tarus to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him the Commander Kenya Army.
Lieutenant General David Kimaiyo Tarus, replaces Lieutenant General Peter Mbogo Njiru whose term has come to an end after 39 years of service.
Until his appointment as Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Kimaiyo Tarus was the Deputy Army Commander.
The President has also promoted and appointed Major General Jimson Longiro to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him Vice Chancellor National Defence University – Kenya Until his appointment Lieutenant General Jimson Longiro was the Commander Kenya Navy.
Until he was appointed Commander Kenya Navy he was the Base Commander Kenya Navy Base Manda.
The other changes include; the promotion of Major General Juma Shee Mwinyikai to Lieutenant General. He has also been appointed as Commandant National Defence College.
Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan has been posted to the Kenya Army Headquarters and appointed Deputy Army Commander.
Brigadier Luka Kipkemoi Kutto has been promoted to Major General and appointed General Officer Commanding Eastern Command.
Major General Aphaxard Muthuri Kiugu, the immediate former Force Commander of the East African Community Regional Force has been posted to Kenya Military Academy and appointed Commandant.
Major General John Maison Nkoimo has been posted to Border Security Command and appointed General Officer Commanding.
Major General Peter Shikuku Chelimo has been posted to Kenya Navy Headquarters and appointed Deputy Navy Commander.
Brigadier Yahya Abdi has been posted to the National Defence College and appointed Senior Directing Staff Navy.
