Kibera court to get high technology to aid DPP speed up children related cases, Says Hajji

The Director of Public Prosecution Nordin Haji has promised to support Kibera court with the required technology that will help fast struck Children related cases including defilement, assault among others.

This according to the DPP will help children testifies through Video Link without seeing the accusers as they enjoy their soft drinks.

Speaking today during the inspection of the Child-Friendly interview room that its aim is to assist is to prepare children prior to the Trial, the DPP who was accompanied by the Somali Attorney said that the technology was key to reduce victimization.

“We are here to inspect this rooms and also sharing with Somalia some of the best practices that we have, we have special rooms that separates children from adults so that they can have an environment that enables them testify effectively,” said Hajji.

He said that the rooms have been opened in various courts across the country.

“When children are psychologically affected it good to make sure that they get a good environment to testify in some of the cases that they are involved,” he said.

Joseph Irungu, the head Dpp, Nairobi region said that the technology was key in the issue of justice transformation among children.

“We have such offices in Makadara, Mombasa and even Kiambu, the main objective is make sure that our children testify without suffering from victimization among other psychological related stress,” he said.

Jonah Meroka, the head of Kibera court station said that the room had already handled seventeen children related cases and both cases ended up effectively.

“ So far seventeen related cases have been done in this room, what the DPP has promised us is that we shall get Camera’s Lapel Microphones, soft drinks and all the materials that children needs for them to be peaceful as the trial continues,” he said.

Other people who accompanied the Dpp are SPP Dorcus Oduor, Somalia Attorney among others.
